As a bride, trying to find out what to wear to your wedding is just as much stressful as it is exciting (at least it was for me). When I was searching for what to wear on our wedding day, believe it or not I found that the dress was the easiest to find out of everything that I wore. When I first started my blog, I wrote a piece about how I found my wedding dress which was the Mikaella 2012. Once I tried on my dress I knew it was the one. I didn’t exactly know what I was looking for on the day that we went dress shopping, but somehow this dress had everything that I wanted.
On the other hand, my shoes were absolutely THE most difficult to find. I didn’t get overwhealmed with the thousands of options there were for bridal gowns but I found shoes to be so hard to choose. Do I choose something that matches my dress or something that’s contrasting? Ivory or a statement color? Sandal or closed toe? Satin or lace? It also didn’t help that I found it impossible to find anything that I liked here in Edmonton which meant I had to order online. I ended up ordering a shoe that I wasn’t quite sure about but ended up LOVING! I ordered the Imagine by Vince Camuto ‘Ophelia’ Pump and they’re so perfect.
My earrings were by Joanna Bisley who makes such gorgeous pieces. I purchased them from The Bridal & Tuxedo House here in Edmonton. Many of her pieces have crystals and pearls which made it easy to find something that matched my dress. Luckily, my mother-in-law had gotten married just a year ago and she had purchased her bracelet from Joanna as well. My earrings matched so I wore her bracelet as my “something borrowed” piece.
Overall, I was so happy with my bridal look. A couple of the accessories I ended up making myself with help from my mom. For my veil all we did was purchase a fine tulle from a fabric store and stitched it onto a veil comb. I made the fur wraps that my sister-in-law and I wore and my mom and I did all of the flowers for the wedding, including our bouquets (big thanks to my mom who watched a ton of youtube tutorials on how to make a bridal bouquet). These things were simple to do if you have a little bit of patience and the right tools. At first I was a little bit unsure about doing all of this ourselves but everything turned out amazing. I couldn’t be happier with how our day turned out and can’t wait to see what our future holds as husband and wife!
